While there are no guarantees, I really want to get back to posting and promoting unsigned artists in 2013.
I'm working on creating a radio show, and also a site where filmmakers and unsigned artists can connect, to mutually benefit one another.
That's it! See ya in 2013!

Unsigned Christian Music - Hsubert.com
Hey, check out my friend Eric's blog. It comes with songs:
At least, I think they're Christian songs. Kind of Velvet Underground-ish, right?
He's an unsigned artist. Used to play his stuff on the show a lot.
I plan to profile more unsigned artists as I get less busy. Feel free to keep emailing me your website / tracks.
That's it for now!

Making it in the Music Business
Just had this conversation with musician Sal Fillipelli on Facebook. Here it is, posted for your convenience and searchability...
- hey Dee Jay
- whats good with you?
53 minutes agoSal Filipelli- same.. at work right now at the moment
- also working on a new album and planning a tour
- got gigs booked in SD, SF and NY already
- trying to get the big LA gig
- are you still at the station or is that done?
50 minutes agoDee Jay Octoon- ha
- hopefully once i finish I'll be able to do more with unsigned artists
- i'm out in the SGV now, so maybe i can partner with a smaller club
- and promote a night a month or something
- we'll see
49 minutes agoSal Filipelli- once the album is done i'm going to want to get a copy of it.. or at least mp3's to you
47 minutes agoDee Jay Octoon- after doing the unsigned artist thing for a while
- it's tough to form a theory on what it takes to "make it"
- any thoughts?
46 minutes agoSal Filipelli- money
- and the right contacts in the industry
- it depends on what your definition of making it is
- in my opinion becoming famous is the opposite of making it
- becoming rich and staying low profile is making it
44 minutes agoSal Filipelli- nobody knows who did that.. but he is getting paid several times a day for it
44 minutes agoSal Filipelli- iTunes is cool because the artist can get their music out there.. but without the right promotion (which is possibly the most expensive thing in the business) it doesn't do you much good
- ..
- if you want to know what to tell independent artists when they wonder how to make it..
- tell them to make good siht
- *shit
- and have a great band
- ..
43 minutes agoSal Filipelli- each member of the band should also play some sort of part in the business aspect of your team as well
43 minutes agoSal Filipelli- yes
- but not in the same way
- one person should be in charge of booking. one person should be in charge of the street team
- one person should be in charge of the digital media
- one person should be in charge of the money
- and so on
- at least until you can get a manager, agent and lawyer
- and publicist
42 minutes agoDee Jay Octoon- I feel like the ones who "make it" more than others are those who run out of patience last... those who can push it for the longest
41 minutes agoSal Filipelli- but there is an age cut off for most markets
- not always true but for the most part the market is marketed to that way
40 minutes agoSal Filipelli- because promoters at that point feel they have already lost 10 years of revenue on you
- sure
- link to my website
38 minutes agoDee Jay Octoon- well, i'll probably try this place and go from there
- anyway, good chatting, man. sorry i don't have a show for you to come on right now
36 minutes agoSal Filipelli- its cool
- I'm trying to find anything to do in LA right now.. but I'm trying to get on a good event whatever it is
- (as far as shows go)
- i know some promoters up there who i will hopefully be able to gig with
- before you post this on your blog can you please go through and edit it so that it looks more like a magazine article than a facebook chat?
- pretty please?
- I'm a literature major and i'm weird like that about spelling errors and stuff..
- in chat its ok but in an article or something like this it would stand out to some readers
23 minutes agoSal Filipelli- sweet
- alright my dude. its quitting time here
- i'll talk to you later.
- have a good one
19 minutes agoSal Filipelli- if you have any more questions just email me or send me a fb message

Script Dr. Eric needs new music for Scriptcast
Hey Unsigned Artists,
If you didn't know, I'm helping out with the screenwriting podcast Scriptcast and am always on the lookout for music to play on the show.
Scriptcast is recorded weekly at the UCLA Radio station. For more info, see the Scriptcast page:
If you're like to hear your song on the podcast, don't send it to me, send it to Script Doctor Eric. I believe his email is eric at scriptdoctoreric dot com...
He and his co-host Matt will decide who gets played on the show.
If you have any questions, tweet Eric at @scriptdreric
To get a feel for what they want, you may want to listen to an episode or two of the podcast.
Basically though, they're looking for all genres of music to play at the beginning and end of the show, and sometimes in the middle.
Seriously.
